Black market birth control, coming soon to a corner near you

Black market birth control, coming soon to a corner near you

In case you missed it, the Wall Street Journal reported today that Health & Human Services is setting about the task of rewriting the reproductive rights of women. Remember, I told you about it here in a video . A reader referred to me as “immature” and “small-minded”. The Bushies must be giddy and dancing on their little tippy (or should I say “tipsy”) toes over this.

Treating the Pill as Abortion

Set aside the fraught question of when human life begins. The new debate: When does pregnancy begin?

The Bush Administration has ignited a furor with a proposed definition of pregnancy that has the effect of classifying some of the most widely used methods of contraception as abortion.

A draft regulation, still being revised and debated, treats most birth-control pills and intrauterine devices as abortion because they can work by preventing fertilized eggs from implanting in the uterus. The regulation considers that destroying “the life of a human being.”

And there’s a reason that McCain is often called McSame or McBush:

  • John McCain has voted to terminate the Title X family-planning program, which provides millions of women with health-care services ranging from birth control to breast cancer screenings.
  • John McCain has voted against funding teen-pregnancy prevention programs.
  • John McCain voted against legislation that would have prevented unintended pregnancy by investing in insurance coverage for prescription birth control, promoting family-planning services, implementing teen-pregnancy prevention programs, and developing programs to increase awareness about emergency contraception.
